INTRODUCTION

Tees are one of the most common types of pipe fittings used in the plumbing industry. These fittings allow for the splitting of a line or the connecting of two lines at a 90-degree angle. These tees are Schedule 80, which means they have the thicker Schedule 80 walls. This makes these fittings ideal for high-pressure applications, because the thicker walls can withstand greater stress.

The thicker walls of Schedule 80 PVC do not create a larger exterior diameter. This means that they can be used with Schedule 40 pipes in some instances, even though the interior diameter is smaller. Adding Schedule 80 fittings to a Schedule 40 system allows the system to have stronger joints. Because of this smaller diameter, Schedule 80 piping may create a slightly reduced flow compared to Schedule 40. However, this reduction is slight, and it is compensated for by the fact that Schedule 80 PVC can withstand the greater interior pressure and higher exterior stress.

Schedule 80 PVC tees come in sizes ranging from 1/2 of an inch to 12 inches in diameter to fit a wide range of applications. The three branches of the tee may be the same size, or the stem may be smaller in a reducing tee. Tees are available with female threaded openings or slip openings for glued joints. The fittings may be color coded, or the piping and fittings can be painted after installation.

These Schedule 80 PVC tees are particularly well suited for underground and underwater applications. The presence of metal and moisture in these settings will not damage the PVC material. Also, because they are Schedule 80, they work well for high pressure applications, such as chemical drainage and processing systems or irrigation systems. They can also be used in firefighting applications. Typically, the PVC Schedule 80 tees are threaded or cemented into place, providing a strong, water-tight seal for whatever application they are used in.
