INTRODUCTION:
PVC butterfly valves can both isolate and regulate flow in a system. These valves work in similar fashion to a ball valve, allowing for a fast shutoff when necessary. They are a bit more affordable than ball valves of similar sizes, and also weigh less, so they do not require as much support as ball valves. PVC butterfly valves can be used in a variety of applications where precise flow pressure is not required, such as irrigation, food processing, chemical processing, manufacturing and home plumbing systems.
PVC butterfly valves have a closing mechanism that is shaped like a disc. When the actuator, or handle, is turned, the disk turns at a 90-degree angle to the flow, allowing fluid to pass through the opening this creates. Because the valve's disc is in the path of the flow, there will be a slight drop in pressure with this type of valve. When the actuator is turned to the "off" position, the valve's disc turns to a parallel position, completely blocking the opening and the flow. The use is simple, with a handle turning the flow and requiring little force to do so. This simplicity makes these a popular choice for emergency shutoff valves, because turning the valve to the "off" position does not require much thinking or strength.
Because they are lighter weight and simple to use, butterfly valves are commonly used in larger applications. We produce valves ranging in size from 2 inches to 12 inches. All are made from durable PVC to withstand exposure to the elements or abrasive chemicals. They will not warp or crack when exposed to cold temperatures, making them perfect for outdoor applications. They also will not rust, which makes them the valve of choice for water-based applications. These valves may be seen in water parks, fountains and aquariums, and they may also be used in light duty chemical mixing applications.
